The Importance of Beauty Rest

The myth of the fountain of youth has been around for centuries and it’s always been an alluring prospect. Who could resist the temptation of everlasting youth and beauty?

The Importance of Beauty Rest

This myth still exists today, in a cosmetic industry that constantly bombards consumers with age-defying products claiming to create a youthful appearance. Creams, powders, face washes, mud masks - we’ve all seen the adverts. However, the secret to the fountain of youth is actually a little closer to home, and it starts right in your own bedroom. Oh, and it doesn’t cost a single cent either!

That’s right, the secret to a youthful appearance is simply a good night’s sleep. And everyone knows that the key to a good night’s sleep is down to comfortable bedding; there’s certainly nothing better than resting your head on a luxurious silk pillowcase after a hard day at work.

Your body repairs and replenishes itself while you sleep and the benefits are directly related to your looks. But any old sleep won’t do - at least 7 quality hours of sleep are essential to get the whole fountain of looks package. If you want to be sure about it, then aim for 9.

If you have less than six hours of sleep a night, it’ll start to have a real effect on your looks. And nobody wants that.

There are four main beauty benefits to getting a great night’s sleep:

Less Wrinkles

When the body is sleeping, it produces more collagen which repairs wrinkles and combats skin sagging. The more collagen produced, the more smooth, plump, and wrinkle-free your skin will become. If you get less than 5 hours of sleep a night, you can get twice as many fine lines compared to a full night’s sleep. It also makes your skin drier and adds to the sagginess.

Brighter Eyes, Much Less Puffiness

The very first thing people will notice if you haven’t been sleeping are the stereotypical signs of dark circles and puffiness around your eyes.

That’s because, with less sleep, fluid begins to build around the thin skin of your eyes. This leads to puffiness and a general look of tiredness. An elevated pillow with a silk pillowcase to keep your skin hydrated is a great way to combat this.

The dark circles show up when you haven’t had enough sleep and the thin blood vessels under the eyes dilate to give the skin a darker tint. A good night’s sleep stops this dilation and will make your eyes look healthier and brighter.

Glowing Skin

If you want your skin to radiate a healthy glow, then you’ll have to sort out those sleepless nights. A lack of sleep can lead to a dull complexion and an overall gaunt-like appearance. You may also suffer an increase in psychological stress of up to 14% for every hour of sleep you lose, and this additional stress isn’t going to be beneficial to your skin. If you’re prone to acne, this is a situation you really want to avoid.

Healthier Hair

Everyone longs for a healthy head of hair, right? But did you know that this is very much connected to your overall health? Sleep deprivation, stress, and ill-health can have serious consequences on the condition of your hair, and can lead to issues such as such hair thinning, follicle damage, and a lack of shine. If you have curly/frizzy hair that tends to be on the dry side, you’ll find that cotton sheets are your worst enemy and will only lead to further damage.

However, if you invest in a quality silk pillowcase, you'll soon see an improvement in the condition of your hair!

Remember, if you look after your body, then your body will look after you - so it's time to invest in some quality bedding if you want to maintain those youthful looks!
